Set in San Francisco during 1985, Test tells the story of Frankie, a young gay man who strives to be a professional dancer. Though determined, Frankie’s lack of experience makes him seem inadequate compared to his muscular and well-seasoned peers, and he never quite makes the cut to perform live for a real audience. Even outside of dance, Frankie cannot escape ridicule, as a San Francisco brought to panic by the height of the AIDS epidemic launches hate and blame against the gay community for the disease.

To become a star on the stage as he is meant to be, Frankie must overcome the ignorance of others and his own deep fear of contracting the AIDS virus. Directed by professional dancer and filmmaker Chris Mason Johnson, Test will both dazzle and educate audiences with stunningly choreographed dance scenes and a story and atmosphere that create an authentic experience of living in San Francisco during the AIDS epidemic.
